It is very popular, so be prepared for a mob scene on summer weekends and warm weather holidays. Plan to come early so you can easily find parking, which can be expensive. The last time I checked the parking fee was $14.

Santa Monica has a nice long bike path. There are convenient bike rentals available, so you could bike all the way to Redondo Beach, if you wanted to. It's 22 miles long. The beach is located next to the famous Santa Monica Pier, with it's many restaurants and a fun amusement park which kids love. There is even a great ferris wheel. All these fun things to see and do, and the beautiful wide sandy beach, is what makes this the best beach in Southern California.
