A list of the most famous Hollywood movie theaters.

These are the elaborate Hollywood Boulevard theaters from the 1920s, when the most beautiful theatres in the World were built in Hollywood California.

Known as Hollywood Movie Palaces, they feature exotic facades, glittering marquees and neon spires on the outside.

The insides have grand sweeping stairways, wide isles, plush seating and the stunning architectial details that will amaze you.

These historic Hollywood theaters thrived for decades offering the movie going public a fabulous fantasy experience.

But then financial pressures were mounting, and the changing taste of the public, pushed the big theater chains to become look alike multiplexes, that we see today.

The wonderful movie palaces on Hollywood Boulevard are very special historic reminders of single screen theaters of a flamboyant era gone by.

GRAUMANS CHINESE THEATER: probably the most famous movie theater in the World. Designed to resemble a Chinese temple, it became one of the most recognizable landmark in cinema history. Movies are still shown in the fabulous main theater, with interious to take your breath away.

THE EGYPTIAN THEATER: the Egyptian Theatre was Sid Grauman's first Movie Palace in Hollywood. It opened on October 18, 1922 with a gala premier of Douglas Fairbank's Robin Hood. It was the first ever Hollywood premiere with Klieg spotlights, red carpet, and celebrities arriving in limousines.

PANTAGES THEATER: it was the last and most ornate of Hollywood's great movie palaces. Among the first movie theaters built after the advent of talking pictures, the Pantages had the most advanced sound equipment in the World. The opening movie on June 4, 1930 featured the World premiere of MGM's The Florodora Girls starring Marion Davis.

EL CAPITAN THEATRE: designed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style as both a legitimate movie theater and office building, it made its debut on May 3, 1926. The Churriqueresqe facade with East Indian detailing and ornate East Indian interiors, made it the most lavish theater in Hollywood.
