Many locals think Ocean Beach is one of the best San Diego Beaches. At least the college crowd.
It has a very popular wide sandy beach where swimmers and surfers hang out. It gets very busy on warm summer days, and the beach crowd is mostly young singles, rather than families.

The main drag is Newport Ave, which runs perpendicular to the beach, ending up by the Ocean Beach Pier. A great place for pier fishing.
The Newport Ave is loaded with cafes and bars, tattoo parlors, surf shops and other unique boutiques. All are catering to the young beach crowd.
But most come here for the beach, and a bit north of the pier is where the action is, with volleyball courts.
You can find many good restaurants in the beach area on Newport Ave. Gallagher's Pub is very popular, and so is the Ortega Mexican Restaurant.
On Wednesday afternoons from June to September, there is the Ocean Beach Farmers Market, between 4PM and 7PM.
There are street performers and you can sample freshly made food, and buy fresh produce and beach related fun items.
