Pantages Theater In Hollywood

The Pantages Theater Hollywood California is a great former Movie Palace and one of the largest, it seats 2,800 people. It's is also the last theater built during the early Hollywood years.

Pantages Theater

The Theatre was built in 1930 in the fabulous Art Deco style that was so popular then. It had its star studded opening premier on June 4, 1930.

Originally the Pantages featured mostly Vaudeville acts, but then the Great Depression put a sqeeze on the revenue and the theater's finances, so the theater was foreced to feature primarily movies, with some occasional live performance.

From 1949 until 1960, the Pantages hosted the annual Academy Awards Cermonies, known as the Oscars.

Today, this wonderful old Hollywood Movie Palace is showing large scale production musicals such as The Lion King by Disney, which ran for two years.

The current feature (Dec 2008) is the 'Wicked', the untold story of the Witches of Oz.

Starting in January 2009, for only 5 weeks, Broadways most haunting love story 'Phantom', returns to the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood on January 21-February 21, 2009.

For information call (213)365-3500 or go to Ticketmaster.com.

The Pantages is located just east of Hollywood and Vine, in the heart of Hollywood, California.
