The Strip, wedged between Hollywood and Beverly Hills of the Sunset Boulevard, is loaded with hot nightclubs, hip rock music venus, and trendy, fashionable boutiques.

During Hollywoods glamour era (1930 to 1950, the movie stars hanged out at Chateau Marmont, partied at Trocadero, and sipped sodas at Schwab's pharmacy.

Today's hotspots are next door to some of these historical landmarks in West Hollywood.

SCHWABS PHARMACY: during 1930 and 1940, this pharmacy was a very hip hangout. Charlie Chaplin played pinball and James Dean sipped his coffee here. It was torn down in 1988. The site is now home to a huge Virgin Megastore. GIANT BILLBOARDS ON SUNSET: the Sunset Strip is a favorite for commercial advertising, such as mega-sized billboards promoting movies, records, products, and individual movie stars. Which is why the billboards are called "vanity boards".

SUNSET STRIP TATTOO: Julia Roberts got a Japanese symbol and Nicolas Cage a stingray at this tattoo studio to the movie stars. This studio has also tattoo'ed Ben Afleck and Pamela Anderson. CHATEAU MARMONT: it looks like a French palace. This 1927 hotel has hosted celebrities such as Humphrey Bogart, Mick Jagger. SUNSET TOWER HOTEL: this art deco gem, formely known as the Argyle, opened in 1931, and has been the home of stars such as John Wayne. It's bar is a hot address today. Click here for Sunset Tower Hotel Reservations SUNSET PLAZA: a two block commercial center lined with designer shops and Euro style restaurants filled with a hip crowd. Its appeal with celebrities such as Nicole Kidman and Cindy Crawford make it a great place for star gazing.

VIPER ROOM: actor River Phoenix died outside this club owned by Johnny Depp, in 1993 after a drug cocktail. Not many remember its earlier life as the Melody Room, a favorite with Bugsy Siegal and his mobster friends. WHISKY A GO GO: it opened in 1963 with go-go dancing. I was there with my now husband. The Doors became the house band in 1966. Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin played here regularly also. It's a place where new bands can be discovered.

HYATT WEST HOLLYWOOD: it's known as the "Riot Hyatt", because its Rock'n Roll history as partytown central for British bands in the 1960s and 1970s. The story goes that Led Zeppelin cruised down halls on mototcycles and Keith Richards mooned his fans. RAINBOW BAR AND GRILL: this Sunset Strip eatery is filled wth long haired rockers and their entourage every night. This is where Marilyn Monroe met Joe DiMaggio on a blind date, when it was the Villa Nova restaurant. They say that John Belushi ate his last meal here before overdosing on drugs.
