LA's Union Station is one of the last grand train depots in America, and it's an architectural jewel built in the California Mission style. The 1939 building contains a stunning three story waiting room with a beautiful wood beamed ceiling, mosaic marbled floors and archways leading to palm tree lined patios.

The comfortable old original wooden chairs are a great place to sit and soak up the atmosphere. There is a small food court, restrooms and pay phones available.

From here you can take the Red Line subway downtown and explore more of the City of Los Angeles. Amtrack trains leave several times a day from the Union Station's second level, bound for Santa Barbara or San Diego, and to points in between. By the way these train routes are very scenic, running mostly along the coast with gorgeous ocean views.
